Pharmacodynamics
The drug has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect, and also normalizes the tone of the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract: it helps eliminate spasms without affecting normal peristalsis, and with decreased tone and motility, it has a tonic, prokinetic effect. In an in vitro experiment, it inhibits the growth of 6 subspecies of Helicobacter pylori. Iberogast® reduces the intensity of ulceration of the gastric mucosa, the secretion of hydrochloric acid, reduces the concentration of LT, enhances the production of mucins, and increases the concentration of mucoprotective PGE2 in the gastric mucosa.
How it affects the body
Iberogast normalizes the tone of smooth muscles of all organs of the digestive system and has an anti-inflammatory effect. It does not affect peristalsis, but effectively relieves spasms. If the gastrointestinal tract has low tone, then the medicine stimulates and tones it.
This drug is able to fight 6 subspecies of the dangerous bacterium Helicobacter pylori: it suppresses their growth. Iberogast has a beneficial effect on the stomach:
- reduces the intensity and frequency of mucosal ulceration;
- increases the amount of E2 (mucoprotective prostaglandin) in the mucous membrane;
- normalizes the secretion of hydrochloric acid;
- improves reproduction and mucin levels;
- reduces the number of leukotrienes.
These effects are very useful for patients suffering from gastritis and stomach ulcers. This reduces the risk of complications and the development of more severe diseases.

Iberogast
Iberogast is a unique combination of nine herbal ingredients for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. Available in the form of drops for oral use. Originally from Germany, where it has been successfully used for more than 40 years. Normalizes muscle tone of the digestive tract, prevents excess gas formation, neutralizes the aggressive effect of free radicals, has an anti-inflammatory effect, relieves pain and bloating. The name of the drug comes from one of its active ingredients - Iberian bitter, which tones the smooth muscle framework of the gastrointestinal tract. Angelica root stimulates digestion and promotes the secretion of gastric juice, relieves intestinal spasms. Chamomile flowers and caraway fruits have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and reparative effects (and the latter also improve food absorption). Milk thistle fruits act as a cytoprotector against stomach and intestinal cells, and also stimulate the restoration of hepatocytes. Melissa leaves are an effective carminative, choleretic, sedative and antimicrobial agent. Peppermint leaves have a similar effect. Celandine herb relieves spasms of smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and stimulates the motor function of the stomach. Licorice root has a wound-healing and antispasmodic effect. The collection and procurement of medicinal plant materials is carried out in strict accordance with the rules of good agricultural practice.
Iberogast is distinguished by a large amount of information proving its effectiveness and safety: more than 20 large clinical studies have been conducted, incl. with the participation of children. The drug eliminates functional dyspepsia (epigastric discomfort, nausea, vomiting, bloating, diarrhea), improves appetite. It contains ethyl alcohol in minimal quantities (less than 100 ml of kefir), which do not affect concentration and attention, so the drug can be used by people whose work involves operating potentially dangerous mechanisms. Loss of transparency or a slight sediment during long-term storage of the drug does not in any way affect its therapeutic effectiveness: before use, just shake the bottle to homogenize the solution. If after two weeks of taking Iberogast the symptoms of the disease do not go away or worsen, you should seek medical advice. Frequency of application: 3 times a day. The optimal time to take it is before meals or with food. Duration of treatment is 1 month with the possibility of extending the drug or repeating the course in consultation with the doctor. The drug has a favorable safety profile and a minimum of adverse reactions (allergy, increased dyspeptic symptoms).
