Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Stodal is one of the complex homeopathic preparations, including mainly herbal components.
Thanks to the substances included in its composition, the product is effective for various types of cough. It has a bronchodilator, expectorant effect, and helps accelerate the transition of a dry cough to a wet one.
Main properties of components:
- bryonia: has an effect on diluting sputum and reducing its viscosity, which leads to improved fluidity of bronchopulmonary secretions and, as a result, helps cleanse the respiratory tract;
- Spongia toast, ipeka: contain alkaloids that reduce bronchospasm and have a similar effect to papaverine;
- Rumex Crispus, Pulsatilla: used to relieve dry spasmodic cough; as a result of the use of these components, the urge to cough is reduced; their effectiveness is similar to ethylmorphine hydrochloride (codetyline).
Instructions and dosage
If Stodal is prescribed to infants, the dosage is 2–4 ml with a dosage frequency of 2 to 4 times per day. It is recommended to dilute the syrup with water and only then give it to the child to avoid irritation of the delicate mucous membrane of the throat.
Children over 2 years old, in accordance with the instructions for use, can be given 5 ml 3 times a day or every 8 hours. In case of severe cough, it is allowed to reduce the time period to 5 hours, but with a reduction in the single volume to 4 ml. You can measure the required amount with a disposable syringe or measuring spoon, which is included in the package.
Syrup dosage for over 14 years of age and adults according to the instructions - 15 ml or 1 tbsp. from 3 to 5 times a day.
The duration of taking the syrup is from 5 to 9 days. As practice shows, relief occurs already on the 3rd day after the start of treatment. If there is no improvement after 7 days, you should visit a doctor to change the drug or adjust the therapy. It is possible that Stodal is not having the desired effect.
There may be several reasons for the ineffectiveness of the drug:
- The medicine is not original (counterfeit);
- The expiration date has expired;
- Does not affect the child (individual feature).
Stodal is well tolerated by children. There have been no known cases of overdose. Stodal does not interact with other drugs because it has a natural base. The simultaneous use of cough syrup and other medications is allowed.
How to store Stodal
The drug should be stored in a dry place, protected from light, out of reach of children, at a temperature of +4 to + 25°C.
It can be stored both in the refrigerator and at room temperature, without pouring it into another container.
Avoid high humidity, exposure to sunlight and heating the product.
The worst conditions are a bathroom with high humidity and cabinets with glass doors that allow sunlight to pass through.
Both humidity and sun have a detrimental effect on the drug.
Prescription during pregnancy and lactation
In the first trimester of pregnancy, taking Stodal syrup is contraindicated for expectant mothers, since drug therapy can negatively affect the formation of the internal organs of the fetus due to the ethanol content in the medicine.
In the second and third trimesters, the use of the drug is possible under the supervision of a physician, in cases where the benefits to the mother outweigh the likely risks to the unborn child.
If it is necessary to treat women with Stodal syrup during breastfeeding, it is important to consider that the active substance of the drug is excreted in breast milk and enters the baby’s body. Combining lactation and drug treatment is not recommended so as not to harm the baby.
Instructions for use of Stodal syrup
Often, due to its herbal base, syrup is prescribed by patients on their own without the recommendation of a specialist, especially since the attached Stodal instructions contain a detailed description of how to treat a cough in a particular case.
So, the daily dose depends on the age of the patient and is one tablespoon up to five times a day for adults, and one teaspoon of Stodal syrup up to three times a day for children.
We can safely say that Stodal is only an additional element of treatment, so it is recommended to first discuss its purchase with a specialist.
Reviews
We invite you to read the reviews of people who have used the drug Stodal:
- Anya. Stodal is an effective cough syrup. I have already been treated with it several times, it noticeably speeds up recovery. The good thing is that it is universal and helps with various types of cough. Just a month ago, my youngest daughter started having a dry cough, I also treated her with this syrup. Just a couple of days later, sputum began to come out when I coughed. It's actually an effective remedy.
- Olga. I caught a cough at the very beginning of the year. I'm in a position, i.e. As you understand, I approach the choice of medications extremely responsibly; when I googled Stodal, I immediately ran to my doctor. He gave me the go-ahead and I started drinking. First of all, I can say that my cough softened very quickly (I had a dry “dog cough”), and my throat stopped scratching with every breath. Then quite quickly I began to cough up, but painlessly, without straining or wheezing. I drank regularly, without missing doses. In general, I can say that by the fifth day of illness I had practically no urge to cough. A very good syrup, really effective, in my opinion it’s just the thing for pregnant women!
- Karina. If someone asks me about cough treatment, I recommend Stodal homeopathic syrup for dry cough. He has already helped us out many times, especially with laryngitis. The big advantage is that it can be used to treat all types of cough; you do not need to buy a bunch of drugs separately. It relieves cough quickly and can be combined with other medications. Suitable for the whole family. You can purchase the medicine online, so you can receive it by mail.

The chemical composition of Stodal is dominated by lumbago, bryonia dioica, ipecac, curly sorrel, lung moss, cochineal cactus, burnt sponge, sundew and antimony tartrate. And the auxiliary components are benzoic acid, ethanol, sucrose and caramel.
This homeopathic medicine is produced exclusively in the form of a yellow syrup with a predominant specific taste and smell. Among the equally productive analogues of Stodal are Sinupret, Doctor Mom and Barberry Comp IOV-Malysh, which have an identical effect on the focus of pathology.

The main purpose of this drug is the productive elimination of cough of varying intensity.
