Most people know the series as a means for bathing babies, protecting delicate baby skin from rashes and diaper rash. But the medicinal properties of the string do not end there; it can treat diseases of internal organs, in addition, it helps with neurological problems.
It is also used in cosmetology to treat pimples and acne.
What healing properties does this useful herb have, and how to use it correctly for treatment, can be found in this article.
Healing composition
The series is notable for the fact that despite the presence of a whole range of beneficial properties, it has a minimum of contraindications. The chemical composition of the plant is simply amazing with its range of rare components. It contains:

But the characteristics indicated here are quite enough to convince yourself of the usefulness of this plant. Of course, the medicinal herb has not yet been fully studied, but it is known for certain that residents of Asian countries use the herb as an antidote after snake bites.
Series - chemical composition
Tripartite herb is used for medicinal purposes. This plant must be distinguished from other relatives, since there are several types of them, and only one effectively treats.
Medicinal herb tripartite series
The medicinal plant species has three-lobed serrated leaves on the cuttings (hence the name of the species). Flower baskets do not have marginal petals, only tubular ones. These characteristic features are clearly visible in the photo. Without knowing the specific distinctive features of the medicinal plant species, it is better not to collect it yourself, but to buy raw materials at the pharmacy, because some species are poisonous.
The medicinal herb is collected in the first half of June before flowering, cutting off 10–15 cm of leafy tops or side branches without thorny fruiting baskets.
Dried Tripartite herb
Dry, like other medicinal raw materials, in well-ventilated, shaded places, spread out in a thin layer and turning daily, or in a dryer (temperature no more than 40 - 45 degrees). Drying is completed when the stems begin to break. Dry raw materials have a specific smell, tart, slightly pungent taste. Can be stored for up to 2 years without loss of healing properties.
The chemical composition is very rich, the herb contains:
- Lots of carotene and ascorbic acid.
- Macroelements – potassium, calcium, magnesium.
- Microelements - copper, zinc, manganese, iron, chromium, selenium, boron, aluminum, nickel. Manganese can be transferred into aqueous infusions and decoctions.
- Tannins (close to 5%), bitterness, mucus.
- Flavonoids (more than 10 substances - luteolin, cinaroside, butein, sulfuretin, sulfurin, scopoletin and others).
- Polysaccharides, essential oils, amines, coumarins.
Trifid succession Botanical description
Sequence tripartite is an annual herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family, up to 100 cm high.
The root is small, branched.
The stem is straight, reddish, glabrous or with sparse hairs, branching oppositely almost from the base.
Branches and leaves are opposite.
The leaves are dark green, the petioles are short, winged, with fused bases, 3 (5)-separate, 3-7 cm long and 1-4 cm wide. The upper side of the leaf blade is almost bare, protruding hairs are visible on the lower side, especially clearly visible on edges of the winged petiole. The upper leaves are mostly simple.
The flowers are yellow, collected in baskets located at the ends of the branches. The baskets are single or several at the ends of the branches, erect, their width is equal or almost equal to the length (6-15 mm). The involucre is two-row, with 4 - 8 outer leaves; they are green, oblong, subulate-ciliated at the edges, narrowed towards the base, equal to the basket or 2-3 times larger than it; The inner leaves of the involucre are brown-yellow, oval, shorter than the flowers. The flowers are tubular, bisexual, dirty yellow.
The fruit is an achene with two 1 ribs and hook-shaped denticles. The achenes are wedge-shaped, strongly flattened, 6-8 mm long, finely bristly along the edge, with two awns at the apex. Sometimes they have 1-2 more shorter awns.
Blooms from July to September. Ripens in August - October.
Spreading
The tripartite series has a Holarctic type of habitat. It grows throughout almost the entire European part of the CIS (except for the Far North), as well as in Transcaucasia, Siberia, Central Asia (except Turkmenistan) and in the south of the Far East.
It grows mainly along the damp banks of rivers, streams, ponds and other bodies of water, in damp meadows, swamps, in ditches and as a weed - in vegetable gardens and irrigated fields.
The plant was brought into cultivation.
Related species
In many areas, together with B. tripartita L., there are species close to it - the radial train - B. radiata Thuill. and drooping string - B. cernua L., the use of which in scientific medicine is not allowed. The drooping series is distinguished by sessile leaves, glandular pubescence and drooping baskets. The succession radiata has wider (their width exceeds the length) and flat baskets, as well as more numerous involucre leaves.
The succession growing in the Primorsky Territory differs from the typical B. tripartita in having quintuple leaves with lanceolate, sparsely and coarsely toothed lobes and slightly larger achenes. Some researchers consider it a special species - the Take series - Bidens taquetii Levi, et Vaniot. However, the characteristics described above are not clearly expressed and therefore most researchers do not recognize the independence of this species.

Traditional recipes with a string
The pharmaceutical industry has long established the production of finished raw materials. The succession for these purposes is grown in environmentally friendly areas using special technology.
The procurement of medicinal raw materials is also carried out in accordance with current quality standards. In pharmacies you can purchase a ready-made tincture or a dry component. Those who are well acquainted with this useful herb collect it themselves at a strictly allotted time.
It is necessary to comply with all requirements regarding the cultivation, collection and storage of the workpiece. If this is not done, the herb will lose its medicinal qualities.
The traditional medicine collection contains a large number of recipes using a series. We present only the most popular of them, used in various fields of medicine.
Pediatrics
- Therapeutic baths.Perhaps the most famous recipe is an infusion for bathing babies. Modern mothers, just like their great-grandmothers once did, always add an infusion of string to the water when bathing newborns and infants. The product is prepared as follows: pour boiling water (0.6 l) over 15 g of dry raw material, wrap it up and leave to steep for 12 hours. Before bathing, the solution must be filtered. The volume obtained from this recipe is enough for a baby bath. If the baby loves space and is used to bathing in a large bath, the quantitative composition of the ingredients should be doubled. Healing baths help get rid of diathesis and manifestations of atopic dermatitis. Pediatricians recommend decoctions as a preventative against prickly heat.
- With chickenpox. This disease is often accompanied by profuse rashes, which are initially painful and then burst, causing unbearable itching. To relieve this symptom, which usually coincides with the cessation of new rashes, it is recommended to give the sick child warm baths with string and chamomile. Both components are taken in equal proportions – 30.0 each. The dry mixture is poured with boiling water (1 liter) and infused for 2 hours. Before bathing the baby, the entire volume is poured into the bath, the water temperature in which should not be higher than 38 degrees. The duration of the procedure is 5-10 minutes. Therapeutic baths are done until the crusts on the pustules fall off.
Important point: After bathing the child, you should not dry it with a towel; you need to let the skin dry.
In gynecology
For female problems of an inflammatory nature, sitz baths in succession quickly eliminate signs of inflammation. You can use a douching solution prepared for external use.
Cooking sequence: a string (20g) is poured into a glass of boiling water. After two hours of infusion, it is filtered. The prepared product can be drunk to normalize hormonal levels in case of menstrual irregularities. You can add yarrow and motherwort to the composition in the same ratio as succession grass.
For the treatment of colds and coughs
The ability of the series to reduce temperature and improve sweating is used in the treatment of bronchitis, runny nose, other viral diseases and the common cold. In such a situation, both an infusion and a decoction prepared in a 1:1 ratio (a tablespoon of dry herb to 1 glass of water) helps.
The mixture poured with boiling water is put on fire, boils for 10 minutes, and after cooling, filtered. The only difference in preparing the infusion is that the solution is infused rather than boiled. The dosage of the main components is the same as in the first preparation. The healing composition removes phlegm well and reduces the intensity of cough. It is recommended to drink it before meals.
For cystitis
In case of exacerbation of cystitis, you can prepare a medicinal composition according to the following recipe: first, pour a glass of boiling water into the dry herb prepared in a container (dose -3 liters), the mixture is placed in a water bath, and simmered in it for 20 minutes. After straining, it is recommended to drink the healing drink three times, drinking a third of a glass at one time.
To strengthen the nervous system
Sedative decoctions and infusions made from the herb improve sleep, relieve irritability, and are very calming. For these purposes, both an infusion and a decoction prepared using the above methods are suitable. But you can brew medicinal tea. For this, just 1 spoon of tea herb is enough.
After half an hour of infusion, the drink is ready to drink. The glass is drunk completely in one go. You should not get too carried away with this type of treatment, so as not to get the opposite effect, as has already been mentioned.
Features of the plant
So, the tripartite string
(Bidens tripartita)
is a herbaceous annual plant of the genus Chereda of the
Asteraceae
. The Latin generic name of the Bidens series consists of two words and in translation means “two teeth” - this is how the peculiarity of its achenes is noted, containing two jagged awns, with the help of which it reproduces.
There are many species in this genus, but our people noted the medicinal properties of one - the tripartite series. This name is associated with the peculiarity of the leaves of this plant - they are on short shoots, divided into three small lobes with jagged edges, placed oppositely on a long straight reddish trunk up to half a meter or more in length. On the stem itself and the shoots extending from it in the upper part there are single tubular flowers, not very bright, yellow-brown in color.
They begin to open at the end of the first summer month and bloom until September. After flowering, those same wedge-shaped, strongly flattened achenes with two teeth begin to ripen in the flower basket, with which they cling to everyone who passes or runs past.
We can say that the three-part series is a neighbor of sedge and reeds, because it can be found on the damp banks of lakes, rivers, ponds, on the outskirts of swamps, in ditches. All this suggests that the plant loves high humidity.
It is widespread throughout the European part of Russia, in Siberia and the Far East, and sometimes forms real thickets, so there are usually no problems with the procurement of raw materials of this plant for medicinal purposes. The main thing is to get away from polluting enterprises and transport. But there is also a great need for its medicinal herb, for example, in Soviet times, the tripartite series was even grown on state farm fields for pharmaceutical purposes.
50 tons of dried grass were harvested throughout the country per year. Of course, even now in pharmacies you can buy ready-made raw materials of the tripartite series, packaged in bags, but you can prepare it yourself. The grass is stored in strings in the summer, in June, when the flower buds have not yet opened. Cut off the upper parts of the plant and shoots up to 15 cm long and leaves. Dry in a ventilated area, for example, under a canopy or in the attic, laying out a layer of 5-7 cm on paper or fabric. The grass must be turned regularly to prevent the raw material from becoming moldy. Dry until the stems become brittle.

Decoctions are useful for the scalp because they fight dandruff, strengthening the hair follicles. For psoriasis, they are treated with ointment with string extract or alcohol tincture. Baths have proven themselves well and can be taken for various skin ailments. The healing properties of the string help soothe skin irritation, relieve rashes and redness. Some companies use the extract in soap production.
In gynecology
The herb is recommended for use for gynecological problems in women. It can relieve inflammation of the mucous membranes of internal organs. To do this, do sitz baths or douching. If it is necessary to normalize the monthly cycle, women are prescribed to drink an infusion, which, in addition to the series, includes yarrow and motherwort. This collection has virtually no contraindications and will help normalize hormonal levels.
Against cough
The healing properties of the string help with colds. In addition to improving sweating, it helps fight fever, and in addition to this, it fights cough. Preparations containing the herb are used for bronchitis, helping to cope with purulent discharge when coughing, removing phlegm.

Being a good diuretic, the series has found its use in the treatment of diseases of the urinary system. However, you should be careful when using it as a medicinal herb on its own or in combination with other plants. It is not useful for all diseases, but only for some kidney diseases and impaired water-salt metabolism. For this purpose, only a decoction of the string is used.
For cancer
The fight against cancer should be under the close supervision of specialists, since self-medication can be harmful. Surgery, radiation therapy and other methods are proven treatments against cancer. Traditional medicine can only contribute to the recovery of the body after surgery and chemotherapy. Infusions from the series in this case have a minimum of contraindications, helping the body gain strength. You should consult your doctor, as some medications may not be compatible with taking medicinal herbs.
A decoction of string for a newborn
The baby's skin is vulnerable to external influences, so it is necessary to take care of it. The umbilical wound requires special attention - it is an ideal place for bacteria to multiply. Therefore, you need to monitor the child’s hygiene, do not forget about regular bathing and use antiseptics.
A decoction of the string dries the skin, relieves itching and redness, which often bother a newborn. Due to its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, it can be used for burns and insect bites or to prevent inflammation.

It should be remembered that the effect of bathing does not occur immediately. Only on day 4-5 the rashes begin to disappear. If there is no visible result, it is better to bathe the baby in another decoction.
If you are not ready to dilute the decoction, try bathing foam with a string of My Sun®. It contains string extract and rice milk, which soothes irritated skin. The foam gently cleanses the baby's skin, leaving it soft after rinsing. It is suitable for daily use from the first days of life. In addition, the product has been clinically tested and recommended by pediatricians.
Oncology treatment
Cancer is a serious disease that is often fatal. You cannot manage with herbal treatment alone; you should definitely contact an oncologist. But in complex therapy, after consultation with a doctor, you can resort to traditional methods.

In this case, you need to take string and chamomile in equal quantities (30 g) and pour 1 liter of boiling water. Leave for about 2 hours, strain and add to the bath. After bathing, it is not recommended to dry the child; let him dry.
Overdose
Like any medicine, the series can cause an allergic reaction. To eliminate negative effects, before the first bath you need to apply a little infusion of the string to the child’s wrist. If itching, irritation, or redness occurs, choose a different product for bathing your newborn.
If the baby bathes for too long, the baby may become overly alert and active. To ensure that your child sleeps soundly, you should not spend a lot of time in the bathroom.
You should also use the herb with caution in case of heart and kidney diseases, dry skin - the herb dries out the skin and affects the removal of fluid from the body.
Series and joint diseases
The series contains components that improve blood flow in the periarticular tissues, promote the removal of excess salts, relieve inflammation and nourish the joints. Therefore, the herb is actively used to treat osteochondrosis, arthritis and other joint diseases.
Stir 10-15 g of dry string in a glass of boiling water, close the lid and wrap in a warm scarf, wait 40-60 minutes, strain the infusion. Drink during the day. Treatment should be carried out until the symptoms disappear, but it should be remembered that therapy should be comprehensive, using medications.
You can also squeeze juice out of fresh string grass and rub it into the affected joints 1-2 times a day.
For acne
To treat acne and pimples, you can make compresses from the string. First, you will need to prepare the following infusion: pour boiling water over one and a half tablespoons of the herb, then leave to infuse for half an hour. Then moisten clean, dry gauze in the resulting infusion and apply it to the problem area. This compress is removed after half an hour, while the skin is rinsed with clean, warm water.
If you carry out this procedure every day, your skin will clear up very soon. And due to the fact that the herb improves the secretion functions of the skin, new acne will not appear.
Use in folk medicine
The preparation of decoctions, infusions and teas requires a competent approach, because the abuse of even herbal remedies is dangerous for the body.
Decoction
A decoction of the string is indicated for colds and gastrointestinal problems
The easiest way to prepare a decoction is to boil 1 tablespoon of dried herb in 1 glass of water, and then simmer it for 20 minutes. The broth should be cooled and strained, drink 1 tablespoon three times a day. This recipe has proven itself well for colds and persistent coughs.
But if you need a decoction to treat stomach ulcers, colitis, psoriasis, gout, pour 1 glass of water into 2 tablespoons of raw material and boil for a few minutes. The composition will infuse for an hour. Then you need to drink it in small portions throughout the day.
Infusion
10 g of dried herb should be poured with 1 glass of boiling water. Leave for 1-2 hours. Ready infusion take 1 tbsp. l. 5 times a day. This infusion can be used to wipe joints with arthritis (but the treatment will be additional, not primary). You can also rinse your mouth with the infusion in the morning and evening - it helps with bleeding gums.
Tea
To prepare tea, you need to take 2 teaspoons of the string and add 500 ml of water. The grass is poured with boiling water, the drink is infused for half an hour. Many herbalists believe that it is in the form of tea that a series of allergies helps. The drink prepared according to the recipe above is designed to be consumed throughout the day (in small portions). Tea relieves allergic rhinitis and other manifestations of allergies.
Extract
Seedling extract is usually not prepared independently, but purchased at the pharmacy. It is produced industrially using the percolation method. By the way, a medicinal ointment is made based on this extract, which is used in the correction of psoriasis. The extract is produced in dark glass bottles with a capacity of 200 ml. This remedy is used to treat eczema, erythema, arthritis, abscesses, and psoriasis. The instructions for the pharmaceutical product clearly take into account the dosage and method of use (specifically for each indication).
Seed oil
You can make butter at home. To do this, you need to take 1 tablespoon of dried raw materials, add 50 ml of coconut, sunflower, olive or almond oil to it. The dried string is crushed as much as possible (in a coffee grinder or mortar), and then mixed with the selected oil. This mass should be mixed thoroughly and poured into a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
The medicinal oil must be infused for a month. After this, it is filtered and becomes suitable for use. For a whole month, try to stir the oil daily. Add it to liquid soap or shower gel (1 part oil to 1 part product), and it will be a good cosmetic contribution to taking care of your own body and skin tone. And for psoriasis, this oil can be mixed with the affected areas. It is also suitable as a remedy to soften the effects of insect bites.
Collection and preparation
The plant begins to bloom in mid-summer, but ends only in autumn. The fruits are completely ready in August. Reaches 15 cm in length. The leaves are large, they need to be collected even before the plant begins to bloom, preferably at the moment the buds form, it is best to cut them with a knife.
As soon as the raw materials have been collected, they must be thoroughly dried, for which they should be laid out on a cloth or paper in a thin layer. Should be stored in a dark, ventilated place. To check how the grass has dried, you need to try it on the stem, for which you break it, checking whether it breaks easily. If this does not cause you any effort, the string has dried well. It is best stored in a cardboard box or special bags for a maximum of 2 years.
Succession in cosmetology
Medicines based on the series have a positive effect on the condition of the skin and hair.
Fighting oily shine
Pour 2 large spoons of dried herbs into 250 ml of boiling water, then set aside for an hour. After the time has passed, clean napkins are dipped into the infusion, then wrung out and applied to problem areas for 20-30 minutes. This procedure should be carried out 1 to 3 times a week.
It is important to prepare a new, fresh infusion each time. The remaining liquid after the procedure can be frozen, and then wipe your face with ice cubes after and before bedtime.
Anti-acne series
Pour a glass of boiling water into a thermos and add 20-30 g of string, close tightly and leave for 1 - 1.5 hours. Then also soak napkins in the infusion and apply to the skin affected by the rash for about 15 minutes. After a quarter of an hour, remove the napkins and rinse the skin with warm water.
For acne, it is not advisable to use ice rubbing on the skin, as this can lead to worsening of the skin condition and the spread of the rash.
Nourishing mask for skin
This mask tones and whitens the skin and also has a calming effect.
You need to collect fresh string grass and grind it thoroughly with a mixer. Mix the resulting mass in equal proportions with fresh cottage cheese and liquid honey, mix well. Apply the mixture to the skin and hold for 20-30 minutes, then carefully remove it without damaging the skin. After the procedure, rinse the skin area with warm water without using any products (soap, shampoo, conditioner).
Bath using a series
If acne affects a large area of the body, and making masks is inconvenient, then medicinal baths can be performed. They also help fight excess weight and eliminate cellulite.
To prepare one bath, you will need a package of string (50 g), which can be purchased at a pharmacy, and a liter of boiling water. Place a container of water in a water bath, add the herbs, and steam for about half an hour. During this time, fill the bath with water, and when the broth is ready, strain it and pour it into a container.
Bathing should not be too long, no more than 15 minutes. After water procedures, rinse your body with cool water. You need to take medicinal baths no more often than once every 7 days.
Growing
In the near future, harvesting wild-growing string will become impractical, because the required amount of its raw materials will be grown on plantations. In this regard, it becomes very important to identify within the natural range a series of its best forms and populations needed to create plantations of this plant.
Agricultural technology
The succession is a moisture-loving plant, so more moist areas on lower parts of the terrain should be allocated for it.
Prefers moist, well-drained areas. The best predecessors are grain crops. While digging, 4 kg of manure or compost and 3 g of complete mineral fertilizer are added to the soil at the rate of 8-10 g per 1 m2.
Reproduction
Sow a succession in autumn or early spring. The optimal time for sowing seeds is 1-1.5 months before the onset of persistent cold weather. When sowing in spring, the seeds are stratified within two months. When sown in winter, the seeds are scarified; when sown in early spring, they are scarified and stratified. When sowing with dry seeds, seedlings appear more slowly than when sowing with stratified seeds. The yield of raw materials when sowing in winter and spring with stratified seeds was obtained three times higher than when sowing in spring with dry seeds. The seeds of the series are spinous, they have poor flowability and stick to one another. Therefore, when sowing with a seeder, you need to monitor the sowing wheels and push the seeds with wooden sticks. They are sown with row spacing of 60 cm, planted to a depth of 2.5-3 cm.
To maintain crops in a weed-free and loose state, careful and timely care is required: weeding and loosening.
Care
Care consists of loosening the soil four or five times to a depth of 5-8 cm and weeding.
