Fenyuls: description, indications, methods of use

A decrease in hemoglobin levels can be caused by poor diet, pregnancy or bleeding. Anemia can be suspected by pale skin, fatigue and irritability.

To replenish iron deficiency, a special medicine has been developed - Fenuls, which additionally includes vitamins and minerals.

What is included in the composition, release form

The drug is available in the form of capsules with multi-colored granules inside. Boxes of 10 or 30 pieces are available for sale. Made in India. Each capsule contains iron, vitamin PP, ascorbic acid, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin B2, pantothenic acid, vitamin B1. Additional ingredients include Non Pareil granules, ethylcellulose, shellac, and carmoisin supra.

Thanks to the capsule form, the drug composition is released slowly - over 12 hours.

In what cases does Fenyuls help?

In accordance with the instructions for use, Fenyuls is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of hidden iron deficiency:

  • due to regular physiological bleeding in women, but prolonged and heavy;
  • during preparation for pregnancy, during pregnancy, and subsequent breastfeeding.

Also, the medication will be useful in cases of deficiency of B vitamins, during periods of intense physical and intellectual stress, during preparation for surgical interventions, and during the course of treatment of severe infectious diseases.

About Fenyuls

Some physiological processes, diets, and serious illnesses can cause iron deficiency. Medicines, for example, Fenyuls, a drug for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency conditions in women at various periods of their life, will help fill the shortage of an important element4.

What components does Fenyuls contain?

The medicinal product contains 55 mg of ferrous iron, which corresponds to the WHO recommended preventive doses required by all women of reproductive age in countries with a high prevalence of anemia3. It also contains a patented synergistic complex of B vitamins and ascorbic acid, which promotes better absorption of iron and helps restore impaired cellular metabolism4.

When can Fenyuls be used?

Fenyuls can be recommended for the treatment and prevention of hidden iron deficiency due to heavy and/or prolonged menstruation, pregnancy, lactation; hypovitaminosis group B4. The drug can be prescribed for element deficiency due to improper and insufficient nutrition.

In what form is Fenyuls produced?

Fenyuls is produced in packages containing 30 capsules for oral administration, which contain Non Pareil granules, which ensure the gradual release of the drug's components. This form of release allows you to protect the components from the effects of gastric juice4, and also facilitates the delivery of granules to the zone of maximum absorption - the duodenum4. Non Pareil granule technology ensures a uniform and gradual release of iron ions, reducing the incidence of side effects (for example, irritation to the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract)4.

How to use Fenyuls?

Doses and duration of use are individual and depend on the degree of iron deficiency. For long-term treatment, after three months of using the drug, it is recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy. After normalization of hemoglobin concentration, the doctor may recommend continuing treatment to replenish iron reserves.

For non-pregnant women4:

  • for the prevention of iron deficiency during heavy and prolonged menstruation: 1 capsule 1–2 days before the start of menstruation, during the cycle and 1–2 days after the end;
  • for latent iron deficiency: 1 capsule per day for 1 month;
  • for the treatment of mild iron deficiency anemia: as recommended by a doctor
  • 1-2 capsules per day for about 3-5 months.

Pregnant women4:

  • for latent iron deficiency and for the prevention of iron deficiency: 1 capsule per day in the I–III trimesters of pregnancy until the serum ferritin level normalizes.
  • for the treatment of mild iron deficiency anemia in the 1st–3rd trimesters of pregnancy: on the recommendation of a doctor - 1 capsule per day until the hemoglobin concentration normalizes.

Who is Fenyuls contraindicated for?

Fenyuls is not recommended for use in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; anemia not associated with iron deficiency, impaired iron utilization. It is contraindicated for esophageal stenosis, gastric and duodenal ulcers in the acute stage; bleeding, in childhood4.

Can Fenyuls be used by pregnant and lactating women?

Fenuls is approved for use in these categories of patients. The drug can be used throughout pregnancy in accordance with the recommendations set out in the instructions for use4.

What side effects can occur when taking Fenyuls?

Taking the drug may cause side effects such as nausea, epigastric pain, constipation, darkening of the stool. If serious adverse reactions occur, seek medical attention4.

Mechanism of action of the drug

The pharmacological action is determined by the components included in the composition and whether the medicine belongs to the group of multivitamins aimed at replenishing iron deficiency, which:

  • acts as an important element of hemoglobin, which is involved in the transport of oxygen in the body;
  • participates together with vitamins B2 and B6 in the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow;
  • important for ensuring healthy skin, nail plates, and hair.

Thanks to vitamin C and riboflavin, the medicine is better absorbed and the negative effect of iron on the stomach is reduced.

Thiamine is necessary for the functioning of the myocardium and the course of metabolic processes in the body. B vitamins are needed to maintain normal visual function and the functioning of the digestive system.

The composition of Fenyuls restores failures in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats caused by cell damage due to vitamin deficiency or lack of iron.

Contraindications and side effects

The instructions for Fenyuls contain a list of conditions under which Fenyuls is prohibited, including:

  • intolerance or identified allergy to any of the substances of the drug;
  • disturbance of iron metabolism, accompanied by its accumulation in tissues and organs;
  • disruption of metabolic processes and excessive accumulation of hemosiderin (iron-containing pigment) in tissues and blood vessels;
  • childhood.

In rare cases, taking the medication can cause allergies, vomiting, gastrointestinal problems (constipation or diarrhea), headache, stomach discomfort, and dizziness.

Fenules®

Acute overdose

Acute iron intoxication occurs in 4 stages. Early symptoms (in the first 6 hours after an overdose): nausea, vomiting and bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, pale skin, cold clammy sweat, acidosis, weak pulse, decreased blood pressure, palpitations, depression of the central nervous system of varying severity up to coma, convulsions, coagulopathy.

The asymptomatic period is 6-12 hours.

Delayed symptoms (after 12-48 hours): renal and liver failure, metabolic acidosis, collapse, fever.

Late symptoms (after a few weeks): liver damage, intestinal stricture.

Treatment:

discontinue the drug, wash the stomach and intestines, orally raw egg, milk (to bind iron ions in the gastrointestinal tract); symptomatic and supportive therapy, in severe cases - parenteral administration of the drug deferoxamine.

Children.

- In the first hours after an overdose, vomiting should be induced.

- Rinse the stomach to remove any remaining medication. Laxatives should not be used in young children due to the risk of diarrhea.

The patient requires constant monitoring; in case of possible aspiration of vomit, suction and oxygen may be needed. In case of more severe intoxication in children and the development of subsequent stages of poisoning, therapeutic measures should be carried out by a doctor.

- Serious poisoning: in case of shock or coma with high plasma iron levels (serum iron > 90 mmol/l), immediate treatment should be given with intravenous deferoxamine solution. The drug should be administered slowly, the maximum dose of deferoxamine is 15 mg/kg/hour. The dose can be reduced after 4-6 hours. The maximum dose of the drug is 80 mg/kg for 24 hours. Warning; if the solution is administered too quickly, a decrease in blood pressure may occur.

- Less serious poisoning: (serum iron: 63-90 mcg/l) Deferoxamine 1 g is recommended to be administered intramuscularly. During intramuscular administration of the solution, a decrease in blood pressure may also occur.

— The concentration of iron in the blood plasma should be constantly monitored.

Adults.

1. In the first hours after an overdose, vomiting should be induced.

2. Rinse the stomach to remove any remaining medication. The patient requires constant monitoring; in case of possible aspiration of vomit, suction and oxygen may be needed.

3. For faster bowel movements, you can use an aqueous solution of mannitol or sorbitol.

4. Serious poisoning; In case of shock or coma with high plasma iron levels (serum iron > 90 mmol/l), immediate attention should be given to intravenous deferoxamine solution. The drug should be administered slowly, the maximum dose of deferoxamine is 15 mg/kg/hour. The dose can be reduced after 4-6 hours. The maximum dose of the drug is 80 mg/kg for 24 hours. Warning: If the solution is administered too quickly, a decrease in blood pressure may occur.

5. Less serious poisoning: (serum iron: 63-90 µg/l) Deferoxamine 2 g is recommended to be administered intramuscularly. During intramuscular administration of the solution, a decrease in blood pressure may also occur.

6. The concentration of iron in the blood plasma should be constantly monitored.

Treatment of acute iron overdose is carried out in accordance with the recommendations set out in the instructions for medical use of the drug containing deferoxamine.

If a shock occurs, anti-shock therapy is carried out.

Chronic overdose

It is known that long-term frequent oral iron supplementation can cause constipation, especially in elderly patients, and can also lead to intestinal obstruction caused by fecal stones.

Application schemes

The summary of the medication suggests several treatment regimens for Fenyuls:

  • for preventive purposes during heavy and long periods, drink one capsule a day or two before their start, in the middle of the cycle and one or two days after the end;
  • hidden iron deficiency is treated by taking one capsule per day for one month;
  • minor anemia caused by a lack of iron is treated for 3-5 months, taking one or two capsules per day.

It is best to take the drug after meals, avoiding combined use with foods or medications that impair iron absorption. Prescription of other iron-containing medications is excluded due to the risk of overdose.

Fenyuls

Fenyuls is an antianemic drug that contains an iron-containing drug and a set of vitamins. Intended for oral use. The active components of the drug are packaged in the form of microdialysis granules placed in a capsule. This form of release ensures a gradual release of active substances over a long period of time. Fenules is in demand for chronic blood loss, iron deficiency of nutritional origin, and increased need for this microelement. Without iron, the synthesis and functioning of the blood protein hemoglobin, the oxygen-binding protein of striated muscles myoglobin, heme-containing cytochrome proteins, peroxidases and catalase enzymes is impossible. Being a structural element of heme (the main component of the hemoglobin molecule), iron takes an active part in hematopoiesis - the process of formation and development of blood cells. The presence of ascorbic acid and B vitamins in the composition of the drug improves the absorption of iron in the digestive tract and prevents the formation of free radicals due to the preliminary oxidation of divalent iron. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) acts as an assistant molecule in the metabolism of carbohydrates and maintaining the normal functional state of the nervous system. Vitamin B3 (nicotinic acid) takes part in tissue respiration. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is a catalyst for vital processes of tissue respiration, an important means of maintaining normal vision.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) as a coenzyme takes part in protein metabolism and the formation of nervous system mediators. Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is a component of coenzyme A and takes part in a number of vital biochemical processes. With a hidden lack of iron, carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism is disrupted, which can lead to the development of dystrophic multiple organ disorders. The use of Fenyuls compensates for iron deficiency and helps to avoid these processes. The drug is indicated for heavy and prolonged menstruation, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and for lack of B vitamins. In case of iron deficiency, the duration of taking the drug should be one month. Possible undesirable side reactions: allergies, dyspepsia (epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation), vertigo. Fenuls is not used in pediatric practice. The drug is contraindicated in case of individual intolerance to one or more components, pigmentary cirrhosis, excessive deposition of hemosiderin pigment in tissues. A possible change in the color of urine while taking the drug (it turns bright yellow) is due to the presence of vitamin B2 in its composition and is not a reason to stop pharmacotherapy. Fenyuls is not recommended to be combined with other vitamin preparations, so as not to cause an overdose.

Price, where to buy, reviews

You can buy Fenyuls without a prescription at any pharmacy or online. The price for a package with 10 capsules starts from 190 rubles, with 30 capsules – from 250 rubles.

Patient reviews of Fenyuls indicate that it is highly effective, simple dosing, and easy tolerable. For women experiencing anemia during pregnancy, the capsules help quickly increase hemoglobin levels to normal levels.

Doctors note the complex composition of the drug as an advantage. However, treatment of severe iron deficiency anemia must be carried out with stronger drugs. It is prescribed mainly as a multivitamin and as a source of iron for people who are practically healthy or have a slight iron deficiency.
