How to maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract after gallbladder removal

There is nothing superfluous in the human body: each organ has its own purpose. If, in order to save the life and health of a patient, doctors have to remove an organ, it does not go unnoticed: the patient inevitably has to make adjustments to his lifestyle.

All this fully applies to the consequences of cholecystectomy. Removing the gallbladder increases the load on the liver. In such a situation, she needs to be helped to function normally, in particular, to improve bile secretion. Diet after gallbladder removal

12.10.2021

Although gallbladder removal is a fairly common operation and is not considered very difficult, it nevertheless disrupts the standard digestive process. Normally, the gallbladder is a reservoir for bile, which enters the stomach to digest food.

When this reservoir is missing, bile flows uncontrollably, even in the absence of food. This causes discomfort in the person who has undergone surgery . This period is called postcholecystectomy syndrome, which can be overcome with diet and therapeutic nutrition.

First meal after surgery

While the sutures are healing and the recovery process is underway, the intestines are extremely weakened. He physically cannot work at full strength as before, so the diet after surgery must be strict. The first day after surgery , you are only allowed to drink. You can quench your thirst with still water, weak tea, and diluted juice.

From the second day after surgery , the patient can begin to eat pureed oatmeal or rice porridge, light soup, and jelly. Then you should add low-fat cottage cheese, boiled fish and chicken, and white bread croutons to your diet. If possible, you can prepare steamed chicken fillet cutlets with the addition of bread, onions and carrots. This should be the diet until discharge.

Most often, the gallbladder is removed due to the appearance of stones in it. In this case, you need to permanently exclude dishes that contain cholesterol from the menu. This will help minimize the possibility of stones forming in the bile ducts.

What to eat after discharge

It is worth noting that food before and after surgery are two different diets. There should now be no fast food or cafe food on your table. You will have to get acquainted with new home cooking recipes. Naturally, hot seasonings, spices and even salt should not be added to food. The latter can be replaced with citric acid or sugar.

Everyone knows that during frying and boiling foods, they lose many useful components. Boiled vegetables give their nutrients to the broth, which we sometimes don’t even eat. The diet after gall bladder surgery includes properly cooked vegetables. They need to be filled with water, closed with a lid, avoiding strong boiling, and stirred periodically.

Steamed dishes

In addition to boiled foods, steamed dishes are ideal food for cholecystitis , cholelithiasis or cholangitis. Such food perfectly preserves all the necessary microelements and vitamins, which are also present in raw foods. In addition, this method of cooking is considered more economical, since the volume of food is not reduced.

Steaming food is not at all difficult, you just need to know a few subtleties. Firstly, you should get a double boiler or a special pan with a double bottom. The broth that cooks the food here is steam. Steam the meat in large pieces for about an hour. The timer on steamers will show how long it takes to cook different foods.

You can cook various vegetables in a double boiler, but they need to be washed and peeled before cooking. The process of boiling potatoes, carrots or zucchini usually takes no more than half an hour. Cabbage or beets take a little longer to cook.

You can also steam various grains. Before cooking, rinse them thoroughly and place them in a saucepan or special container that comes with the steamer. When the cereal is ready, add milk, a little vinegar or light sauce. You can create a very tasty and, most importantly, healthy menu from cereals and meat or from steamed cutlets and vegetables.

The main thing is not to salt the food before steaming; it is best to add a pinch of salt to the plate. This way you will significantly reduce your salt intake.

In general , the diet after gallbladder surgery is not very restrictive. If you approach the development of your daily diet correctly, then in the end you won’t even notice that your food lacks fried and spicy dishes that are so loved by many.

Boiled and steamed foods can also be very tasty, and most importantly, beneficial for the body that has undergone surgery .
